The City of Edinburgh Council has introduced a Drone Policy in response to an upsurge in public request and usage of drones (or Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)) on council managed land including parks, roads and public open spaces.
Traditionally UAS have only been used by model aircraft enthusiasts for recreational purposes. However, commercially, drones have become more popular for filming and surveying, replacing traditional methods of aerial film and still capture.
Drone operators had a chance to speak to the officers handling drone filming in the city (public safety, supported by Roads, Parks, Police) as well as the Convenor of the culture & environment committee, Councillor Donald Wilson.
The briefing event took place on Tuesday 9th April in the Diamond Jubilee room at Edinburgh’s City Chambers on the Royal Mile.
