Film Edinburgh report on filming in Edinburgh, East Lothian and the Scottish Borders for 2019.

The economic impact of film and TV production in the Edinburgh city region is £14.4M:
• Feature films/TV dramas: £10M
• Factual/Light Entertainment: £750K
• Commercials/Corporates: £3.3M

The significant economic impact of drama was derived from 19 out of a total of 340 filmed programmes that took place in Edinburgh, East Lothian and Scottish Borders in 2019.

Commercials and corporate shoots in the region are on the increase both in quantity and value, demonstrating a demand for locations and recognition of the skilled production services to be found in Edinburgh.

£5M investment came from Fast & Furious 9 which gave employment to 1440 locals including 856 supporting artists and over 50 local new entrants to the film industry who were given jobs as location marshals.

Other sectors to benefit from the filming of Fast & Furious 9 included businesses hired as filming locations, accommodation providers, local film crew, companies providing services to the film & TV sector, as well as local bars, restaurants and attractions.

Fast & Furious 9 filmed in the City of Edinburgh over 19 days in September 2019 in 11 different areas of the city centre with a further 68 days prep and strike.

Rosie Ellison, head of Film Edinburgh, said:

The figures for 2019 are testament to Edinburgh’s production workforce, the region’s film-friendly attitude, and the fantastic range of locations within a short distance of Scotland’s capital city. With a film studio on the horizon, we can look forward to more consistency within the film & TV employment market and more opportunities for our local economy to benefit.
