Golden Globe Nominated Outlander Boosts Scottish Tourism

As season one has landed on DVD in time for Christmas, the news of three Golden Globe nominations, including best TV drama, there is much to celebrate as the National Trust for Scotland recently announced a surge in visitor numbers at sites across the country contributed directly from the success of Outlander.

The Sony/Starz series is adapted from the best-selling book series by Diana Gabaldon, and follows the story of Claire Randall. A British army nurse in 1945, Claire is enjoying a romantic trip with her husband, Frank, when she is mysteriously transported back in time to the year 1743 where she finds her life and freedom threatened. Claire meets young Scottish warrior, Jamie Fraser, and a passionate relationship between the two begins leaving Claire torn between two different men in two different lives.

Locations for season one include one of Scotland's oldest working meal mills at Preston Mill in the village of East Linton (East Lothian) which stands in as the mill at Lallybroch. The mill has seen a 26% increase in visitors from September 2014 to September 2015 since the show debuted.

Outlander season one also featured the magnificent Hopetoun House, situated just outside of Edinburgh in South Queensferry, which doubled as the stately home of Duke of Sandringham.

Season one is available to watch now on Amazon Prime and is currently available on DVD. Season two is currently being filmed in Scotland.
