You might have missed a few of the productions that have shot in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Scottish Borders, and not all of them were ever intended for UK release. Here we list a few web sites showing clips and videos of recent productions:

Castles In The Sky
gripping war drama for BBC2 network TV, co-produced by Scottish production company Black Camel (of Sunshine On Leith fame), starring Eddie Izzard as the inventor of radar. Filmed in Edinburgh and East Lothian.

Pramface 3
BBC3 teen comedy continues, filmed entirely in Edinburgh.

The Railway Man
the story of Eric Lomax, a POW in Burma. Starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth, and filmed on location in North Berwick and Cockenzie. In cinemas January 10 2014

Under the Skin
haunting adaptation of Michel Faber's novel set along the A9 in Scotland. The film stars Scarlett Johanssen and features Tantallon Castle in East Lothian.

Sunshine On Leith
a glorious musical about a couple of young squaddies coming home from war, set to the tunes of The Proclaimers.

an adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel starring James McAvoy as a corrupt cop in Edinburgh. Dark and hard!

The Escape Artist
BBC legal thriller starring David Tennant as a barrister who gets personally involved in a murder case. The series climaxes in Edinburgh and East Lothian.

more mysterious and intriguing cases for private detective Jackson Brodie to solve in Edinburgh. Jason Isaacs' (playing Brodie) video diaries give a fascinating insight into what happens on production.

Pramface 2
Jamie & Laura continue their unexpected journey into parenthood. Filmed on location in Edinburgh.

Cloud Atlas
epic sci-fi drama adaptation of David Mitchell's best-selling novel, starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant and many more. Filmed on location in Edinburgh at the Scott Monument, City Chambers and India Buildings on Victoria Street.

Burke and Hare
starring Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis.

spy thriller by Kudos, shown on BBC1 in 2012, starring Melissa George as a highly skilled operative for an elite private intelligence agency who survives an attempt on her life that may have been orchestrated by members of her own team. After re-training in the Highlands (aka East Linton and the Pentland Hills), she returns to work, but who can she trust?

Love Bite
a comedy horror film by Ecosse Films, the makers of Mrs Brown and Nowhere Boy. Local lads in a seaside town fear that a werewolf is preying on their virgin flesh! Filmmakers spent a week on East Lothian's coastline in 2011. Film released in the cinema in 2012.

Single Father
a drama for the BBC starring David Tennant about a man struggling to raise his 4 children after the death of his wife. Man falls for wife's best friend and complications arise.

(aka Seasons of Love), Bollywood feature

One Day
the feature film of David Nicholls' acclaimed novel of the same name starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. The story involves the complicated relationship between Emma (Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess) who meet on the night of their college graduation and continue to reconnect on the same date for the next two decades.

Case Histories
a six-part BBC series adapted from Kate Atkinson's compelling mysteries, will be filmed in Edinburgh over the coming months. Private investigator Jackson Brodie is to be played by Jason Isaacs of Harry Potter fame.

Pramface series 1
a BBC comedy following two unlikely young parents-to-be on a nine-month rollercoaster ride. Filmed in Edinburgh.

The Awakening
a feature film starring Dominic West (Jimmy McNulty from The Wire) and Rebecca Hall has been filming in Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders. The Awakening is a sophisticated psychological-supernatural thriller set in the 1920s, with a unique twist in the tail.

The Illusionist
Chomet's Oscar-nominated love letter to Edinburgh was created in Edinburgh, stars Edinburgh and now, thanks to the extra PR around the nomination, is helping to showcase the beauty of Edinburgh to a wider audience internationally. On DVD release now.

Danny MacAskill does it again, sponsored by Redbull. Don't do this at home and of course they asked permission of all the locations first! Edinburgh Castle, North Berwick, South Queensferry and one of the Inch Islands in the Forth.

French feature film starring Catherine Frot, set in London and the Highlands but filmed in Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders.

LG TV Commercial - Borderless with Birds
Directed by Dante Ariola and shot on the Bass Rock in May 2009. The ad will be seen across Europe in 2010. See online at:

New Town Killers
Dougray Scott and James Anthony Pearson and Alistair Mackenzie star in a hi-octane game of hide and seek with a dangerous twist through the streets of Edinburgh. Trailer online at:

Arn, the Knight Templar
the biggest budget movie ever to come out of Scandinavia, based on Jan Guillou's best-selling trilogy about the son of a high-ranking Swedish nobleman, educated in a monastery and sent to fight in the Holy Land as penance for a forbidden love. Arn filmed in the Lothians over several weeks in 2007, at locations including Seton Collegiate, Torphichen Perceptory and Craigmiller Castle. The film has been released with huge success in Scandinavia but hasn't reached the UK market yet.

Neil Marshall's sci-fi horror action about a deadly virus threatening to wipe out the population, was filmed on location in Blackness Castle in 2007. The film was released in UK cinemas in May 2008, but if you missed it, you can watch the trailer here:

Almost Heaven
a Canadian production where a TV director is hired to salvage an international fishing show in Scotland, filmed in the Scottish Borders in July 2006. The film didn't get a release in the UK but rumour has it that a DVD release may be on the cards soon. Watch the trailer here:

a US ad that was filmed on location at the Glen golf course North Berwick.
