When it was released in 1996 Danny Boyle’s adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s source novel Trainspotting was a worldwide success and a cultural phenomenon. Twenty years on director Danny Boyle has reunited the original cast for the sequel T2: Trainspotting.

The sequel is said to be loosely based on Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting follow up Porno, however details of the plot are currently under tight wraps. Along with Boyle, John Hodge, who received an Oscar nomination for the original’s script returns, as does producer Andrew MacDonald.

T2: Trainspotting filmed all over Capital during the spring/summer months of 2016, with Film Edinburgh and the City of Edinburgh Council pulling out all the stops in order to help the filmmakers get the shots they needed in the locations they wanted. Much of the community got involved too, with locals helping out with security, research, and as filming locations, several of which are registered with us.

Churchill which Scotsman Brian Cox tackle the role of the iconic wartime leader, Winston Churchill. This ticking clock thriller follows the lead up to the D-Day invasion as the British Prime Minister, terrified of repeating the disastrous Gallipoli landings of the WW1, battles with himself as well as the Allied leaders in preparation of the invasion.

Miranda Richardson plays Churchill’s wife Clemmie from whom he gains much support as he goes up against the likes of Mad Men’s John Slattery as General Eisenhower.

The film is written by author and historian Alex von Tunzelmann with Jonathan Teplitzky takes up directing duties. Teplitzky is no stranger to the area having filmed The Railway Man starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman in Edinburgh and East Lothian back in 2012. Churchill marks his return to feature films after working on the critically acclaimed television series’, Broadchurch, Indian Summers and Marcella.

The production spent five weeks filming in the Edinburgh city region, including Calton Hill, Newhailes and Yellowcraigs beach in East Lothian.

Producers Nick Taussig and Paul Van Carter from Salon Pictures told Screen “With an exceptional script, a powerhouse performance by Brian Cox, and Jonathan’s crafting of a beautiful piece of cinema, we think this is the definitive portrayal of Churchill. Taking the less predictable path with such a wonderful cast will bring this story home to a global audience.”

Keep an eye out for this Dutch comedy drama which opened in the Netherlands on 1 December.

Written and directed by Robert Jan Westdijk, Waterboys is a funny and touching film about fathers who have to grow up and sons who should take life a little more easy.

Crime novelist Victor and his twenty-year-old cello playing son Zack both have become single. During a trip to Scotland they are forced to confront themselves and finally get to know each other. The film features a soundtrack and a special appearance by the renowned band The Waterboys

The production shot in the Edinburgh region for ten days during July 2015. Locations included Channings Hotel, Arthur's Seat and Surgeons' Hall in the Capital as well as Leaderfoot Viaduct in the Scottish Borders.
