"Where we shot was so beautiful. My mum’s family come from The Borders and it was a real joy to be there. Some parts have an amazingly bleak landscape but others are very soft and gentle with rolling streams."
Juliet Stevenson
"It’s a lovely place to work with incredibly vast landscapes which can also look incredibly isolating."
Rob Dempsie
One of Us is a gripping four part drama from the creators of The Missing (Harry and Jack Williams) shown on BBC One in the autumn of 2016.
This modern day thriller follows two families living together in an isolated rural town in the Scottish Highlands. When two family members are horrifically murdered, dark family secrets are unearthed as the search for the killer ensues.
BAFTA nominated Juliet Stevenson heads up an impressive ensemble cast which includes Breaking Bad’s Laura Fraser, comedian and actor Adrian Edmondson, The Fall’s John Lynch, Game of Thrones’ Kate Dickie and Joe Dempsie and Outlander’s Gary Lewis.
The production spent over three months filming in Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders and East Lothian, with Peebleshire in the Scottish Borders standing in as the village of Braeston in the Highlands while Edinburgh plays itself.
William McGregor, Director of One Of Us, said:
“A huge amount of the tone and atmosphere of One of Us came from the architecture, surrounding landscape and beautiful light quality of Edinburgh. From medieval tenements, old train tunnels, rolling hills and ultra modern glass offices. There’s such a rich variation of locations, which was perfect for the various scenes we had spread across the city. Filming was also straight forward and we had great control of our locations, I’m sure there was a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes that I wasn't even aware of. But the end result was certainly obvious, as I felt fully supported in achieving what I wanted every time we were filming on location in the city.”
