Sean Robert Dunn's debut feature starring Peter Mullan as a local historian and descendant of an 18th century landowner and 'hero of the Scottish Enlightenment', premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival in January 2026 and was released in cinemas in the UK in June 2026.
The film was shot on location in Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian through the autumn of 2023. Main Street in Balerno, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, was transformed into the highland village of Aberloch, with the community centre used as the visitor centre at the heart of the film. Look out also for Flotterstone Glen in the Pentlands, Borthwick Church Kirkyard, Oxenfoord Castle Estate and Preston Hall in Midlothian, Yellowcraigs Beach and Cockenzie in East Lothian.
