The Illusionist

Sylvain Chomet - 2010

The Illusionist is one of a dying breed of stage entertainer whose thunder is being stolen by emerging rock stars. Forced to accept increasingly obscure assignments in fringe theatre, garden parties and bars he meets a young fan who changes his life for ever.

Based on a story by Jacques Tati, Chomet set the story in Scotland and in Edinburgh after visiting the city when his film Belleville Rendez-Vous was showing in the Edinburgh International Film Festival. He fell in love with the city and moved to Edinburgh, setting up his animation studio in George Street.

Locations to appear in the film include Arthurs Seat, Princes Street, the Barony Bar on Broughton Street, George Street, Jenners department store, Old Town and New Town.
