The Brigade has a standard charge for stand-by services at special events. Permission to be sought for events with a risk of fire. Covering an area of 2,500 sq. miles and a population of c. 850,000 it is the oldest brigade in the UK. The Museum of Fire tells the history of the oldest municipal fire brigade in the UK, formed in 1824. Housed in the historic headquater building at Lauriston (itself 100 years old) it shows the development of fire fighting with machianics and appliances.
