I am a producer-director-cameraman with over 20 years of experience in making documentary films for television and international organizations. I started my career in film & television as a cinematographer working for international documentary crews and television channels. I worked as a cinematographer for major television documentaries (including “Micro Debt” (2010) by Tom Heinemann for the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK1) and with Nicolas Haque (Al Jazeera Correspondent, Dhaka) on news stories. I also produced and directed documentary films for different television channels. Whilst working at BBC Media Action, I produced and directed a factual TV series called “Amrai Pari” (‘Yes we can’, 2014), which had an audience reach of 15.8 million and received Best Programme on Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Risk Reduction at the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Broadcasting Awards 2016. Working for BBC Media Action, Al Jazeera, Jamuna TV, NRK1, DR (the Danish broadcasting corporation), TARA News (India) has given me exposure to high-quality video production and the broadcast environment internationally. I have extensive experience in handling audio-visual production equipment, including camera work for international television stations. My ECA graduation film “Where is Billet?” (2011) was screened in film festivals and was shortlisted for One World Media Award for student films in 2012 and the Wiley Blackwell Student Film Prize 2013 at the 13th RAI International Festival of Ethnographic Film. I was awarded Creative Scotland’s Document24 award in 2015. As part of my residency at The British School at Rome, I created two video art installations, “Roma Sub-Rosa” (2015) & “Prego Selfie” (2015). These installation films were exhibited in 2015 at the March Mostra in Rome and at the West End Festival in Glasgow. This broad range of experience in producing and directing across different genres and institutional settings transnationally illustrates my experience of documentary filmmaking practice to a high, international standard.
