The Edinburgh and Scottish Collection at Central Library holds the most comprehensive collection of published material on Edinburgh past and present. Its collection includes over 100,000 books, maps, prints, slides, old parish registers, census returns and newspaper cuttings relating to the history, topography and social life of the City of Edinburgh. The collection includes around 25 000 images of Edinburgh in the form of prints, photographs, sketches and watercolours. Some of these can be accessed on line at https://www.capitalcollections.org.uk
