You’ll be please to note that you do not need a permit to film on street in Edinburgh, the Lothians or the Scottish Borders provided the filming does not cause an obstruction, nuisance or offence.

However, it is in your interest to let us know where and when you are filming and to show courtesy to members of the public and local businesses. If you are filming on private property you will obviously need the owner’s permission.

If you need to control the street, or if you are using heavy equipment, you will need to apply for the appropriate Order or Permit following a joint agency meeting organised c/o Film Edinburgh. Find out more about these circumstances in the Code of Practice.

Pay bays suspensions and single yellow line dispensations can be organised in the city centre following the procedures outlined in the Parking for Special Events guide.

Please take a few minutes to read the guidelines (left) that we have set out for filming in our area as this will save you time, money and worry later on. If you'd like more specific information, please get in touch.

If you have any questions please complete our online Enquiry form or contact us.
