"Thank you to the Film Edinburgh team for having our back"
Danny Boyle, director
The long awaited sequel to Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting brings together the original cast 20 years on. As well as the cast, the film reunited many of the original filmmakers - director Danny Boyle, producer Andrew Macdonald and screenwriter John Hodges. Loosely based on Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting follow up Porno, the film follows Renton as he returns to Edinburgh to make ammends with old friends Sick Boy and Spud while avoiding Begbie.
T2 Trainspotting filmed all over Edinburgh over spring/summer 2016. Film Edinburgh and the city of Edinburgh Council pulled out all the stops to make sure the filmmakers could get the shots they needed in the locations they wanted, in recognition of the worldwide interest in the film and its depiction of Edinburgh.
The film is released in UK cinemas 27 January 2017.
Director Danny Boyle said:
"From the first stages of pre-production, Film Edinburgh was on hand to support and advise our locations team, working closely with us to facilitate filming with the Council and local community. The good will from local individuals and organisations towards the production made it an absolute pleasure to be back filming in the city. Thank you to the Film Edinburgh team for having our back"
